Hi FOQ1!
I think that anyone can add a forum under a Category.
If not, please let me know.
Industries
metal, oxygen, etc, etc .... each of the industry titles ** should ** rate a forum.
A forum allows an unlimited number of topics.
Posts should relate to the topic.
In the past we've noticed that folks are inspired by a topic to think about something completely different.
Hopefully we'll be able to stay on topic in this forum.

Hi FOQ1 ....
I had forgotten, but SpaceNut already created a top level Category for Agriculture
If you think that Category should have a sublevel of Industry, that would be fine with me.
The only request I would have is that as we start building this forum, we stick to the topic.
In present situation, we have a Category for Industry, and we have an entire Category for Agriculture.
I can see how there could be some overlap or duplication.
Please use the Search tool to try to avoid creating new topics that already exist ...
A search for "agriculture" revealed that the Category did not show up. That's a surprise.
The search table is constructed by phpBB3 as we use the system. It saves words in a table, with links to the posts where those words appear.
That table does NOT contain the names of categories. Perhaps there is a way to populate that table. I'm thinking of a post that contains the names of the categories.
I put this discussion in the "category" of "growing pains"

Requesting new category under Industry - Agriculture
A sub forums of - 1) Inputs
might be useful to discuss the process of acquiring water, NPK, trace minerals, media, and humus.
2) Outputs
food, fiber, (grain) alcohol, animals and said by products, mycology, dyes, and more.
Thanks for this request ... terminology in phpBB3 is a bit different from FluxBB ... I'm still trying to learn it.
What I know for ** sure ** is that a Category is the top level. If Industry is a category, then it can have many forums, and each forum can have subforums.
I agree that Agriculture should be included as an industry. Please allow SpaceNut and me a bit of time to try to figure out the correct configuration.
I do know that a forum can have many topics.

This is the "official" direct communications topic for FOQ1
It is reachable from Board Index as a sub forum of Membership Information.
Welcome to this small lifeboat. We may be able to add members while we simultaneously wait to see if the old forum is restored.
The history is that the NewMars.com/forums was created independently of the Mars Society, but the two grew together over 20+ years, and ultimately the forum was managed by the gent who became Executive Director of Mars Society.
At that point, he transferred Webmaster responsibilities to kbd512, who served in that role for a couple of years with quiet skill.
If the older site is restored, everyone will revert to the roles in place at the time the hackers took over.
In the mean time, SpaceNut and I share Admin duties. We have no Moderators at this point. Those might come with growth.
My main interest is keeping the Business Calendar for Mars going. The Business Calendar for Mars was developed five Earth years ago under the supervision of RobertDyck. It was developed independently of something called the "Darian" calendar. The Darian calendar is similar but it has some differences. The Business Calendar for Mars has been in daily test mode for 2 and 3/4 Mars years. We are now in Mars Year 38, and approaching Mars Year 39. My hope is to have a physical calendar ready for use by the beginning of Mars Year 39.
A distinctive feature of the Business Calendar for Mars is the orientation away from the Sun, so that the sky above Voyager 1 lander is shown at midnight of the transition to Day 1 of the new month.
Welcome to this lifeboat!
Best wishes for a rewarding experience.
