For SpaceNut ...
This post is about submarine history....
A Confederate submarine is noted for being the first such vessel to sink a warship.
However, the Hunley did not return from it's mission.
Modern science has been able to figure out what happened.

For SpaceNut ....
That "spammer" id deleted turns out to have been FriendOfQuark1.
It seems possible that FriendOfQuark1 did not realize we have just suffered the loss of an entire forum due to spammers, and that I've had to delete a spammer that got onto the new site while it was exposed (before Cloudflare).
I wrote back to offer to try again, but to plan ahead with email this time.
This may not be the best time to experiment with humor.

For SpaceNut ....
This is a follow up to the idea of adding email support for this site.
Here is a conversation with Gemini. Please note that I include the query so you can understand the starting point for the results:
I am grateful for your encouragement and look forward to working with you tomorrow. I am not necessarily most concerned about simplicity, so the option with Azure as a partner might be worth a closer look. In any case, let's pause here and resume tomorrow.
Gemini said
That sounds like a solid plan. It’s been a productive session, and seeing those first few members post on the new site is a huge win for the "New Mars" community!
Since you mentioned a preference for the Azure partnership, I'll have the details ready for SendGrid when we pick this back up. Because SendGrid is the primary "Email as a Service" partner for Azure, the integration is very stable and keeps your technical stack consolidated within the Microsoft ecosystem.
We can walk through:
Setting up the SendGrid Resource inside your Azure Portal.
Configuring the API Key for security.
Plugging those details into your phpBB SMTP settings to get that "Contact Us" link live.
Rest up, and I’ll be here whenever you're ready to resume the reconstruction tomorrow.
Safe travels back to the Martian frontier!

For SpaceNut ... First, thanks for the reply about the interesting post with information from CoPilot.
If it can see the directories, then we can. Please ask it what we need to enter to see them.
Please do NOT send the information here, but instead please use the regular admin email.

Second, I just turned off Registration because a spammer registered and posted.
I had opened Registration for our members, but none took advantage and the spammer did.

I will attempt to find out how to set up email on this system.

RobertDyck just posted something!
We can rebuild with this foundation.
It may take a while, but hopefully this site is sufficiently protected.
One thing we want to do is to make sure we are doing everything we can to help our members achieve their objectives.
I've had long conversation with a friend from the LUF days (2011-2012) when we attempted to bring the Living Universe Foundation back to life. We were making decent progress, when Yahoo pulled the plug on Yahoo Groups.

I think the model of entertainment, with lots of exciting arguments, is not a good bet for working with the current generation of young people.

What is this?
Is CoPilot making things up?
Can it see the Dreamhost directory? I would expect nothing at Dreamhost to be visible.
Please ask CoPilot where got all that information.
Did you suggest quarantine? Where did that come from?

For SpaceNut ....
Thanks for posting in Housekeeping.
It is good to have your ID in the Active list.
There are only five of us connected to the forum these days.
It may take a while before the folks we ** have ** resume posting.
We can certainly recruit others, but our efforts to recruit new members yielded only a few members over five years.
None of them were active when the site went down.
It is possible the kind of forum that was created in 2001 and 2002 lived out it's full life. I've been talking recently to a friend who went through the Living Universe rebirth with me back in 2011. That group died when Yahoo pulled the plug on Yahoo Groups. The Knowledge site started by Dr. Lewis Dartnell is where I spent a couple of years before Terraformer recruited me to join NewMars. The Knowledge site was attacked by spammers until it broke. You and I saved NewMars by blocking registrations, and then converting all those spammer ID's to ID's for new members.
My friend offered the opinion that forums may not appeal to the current generation the way they appealed to us.
We might be able to provide a new service to the current generation, but my friend tells me the current generation is far more interested in visual experiences that text.
A question we might ask ourselves, is what value we can provide to a potential member.

For SpaceNut re postings....
Thanks for confirming Housekeeping will work for you!
It may be a while before we build back up to where we were before the outage, but at least we have five folks able to post.
RobertDyck asked to have the new site exposed on the Internet. I think it is actually exposed on the Internet. I went to a computer that uses a completely different IP address (so the computer had to use the new-mars.org/phpBB3/ link, and that seemed to work.
However, requests for access do go through Cloudflare now. I assume that means spammers are blocked.
There is a lot to learn about the new service. Access to the Azure site is limited to the small number of IP addresses I have set up, so spammers cannot get in that way.

Thanks for confirming you were able to access the site using new-mars.org/phpBB3/
Something to watch for is your computer switching to the IP address by itself. I find that if I'm not paying close attention, my computers all shift to the IP address after I open a session using new-mars.org/phpBB3/ It's something to watch ....

seems fine to me as I found it ok and even made the note of using the domain name to log in to the site with no issues.

For SpaceNut re Housekeeping topic...
Just FYI ... I decided to go ahead and create the topic because it was/is needed for discussion of operation of the forum.
I learned last night that lack of the full suite of Cloudflare IP addresses may explain the timeouts that our members are reporting.
I'll add the missing IP addresses today. I have the list in an email, and have access to the Azure control panel on a second PC, so hope to have the work completed by noon your time today.
